Our friend Steve Long knows how to cure seaside cabin fever

One of Steve's bass caught in a pond behind Ocean City
Middle Atlantic seaside resident Steve Long has found an ideal way to chase away the winter blues. Steve has located several freshwater ponds behind Ocean City, Md., that allow him to cast a lure from shore without having to worry about the ocean’s waves filling his walking boots with water.

Crappies weren't bashful, snatching up Mepps spinners
“I ‘discovered’ these ponds last spring, all within 5 minutes of the ocean. They’re full of largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills and white perch,” he says. “So, out I went the other day, despite the weather and despite having had a cold rain during the previous day and night. In 45 minutes I had said hello and goodbye to a dozen bass and two crappies, all caught on a Mepps spinner.”

Have you coastal residents ever thought about doing the same?
